The word Kosher means 'proper' or 'acceptable'. It refers to food & drink that may be eaten by Jewish people. The laws of kosher have their origin in the Jewish Bible as give to us on Mount Sinai.
The laws of Kosher have been applied through the centuries to ever-changing situations, and these rulings apply to all times and are applied to today's world of modern technology.
The Bible lists the basic categories of food items which are not Kosher. These include certain type animals, fowl & fish. In addition, Kosher species of meat and fowl must be slaughtered in a prescribed manner, and meat & dairy products must not be manufactures or consumed together.
Each category of food has its own separate Kosher laws, Meat, Fish, Dairy & Grape.
For a product or raw material to be Kosher two things are required:-
- The ingredients must be ksoher
- It must be manufactured on a Kosher compatible manufacturing and packaging line.
We don't expect anyone who is not Jewish to know anything about Kosher and we are happy to advise and guide companies with any questions that they may have.
